Luis Alberto Rodriguez Lopez-Calleja is a businessman and military leader from Cuba. He is a member of the Cuban military and holds the rank of Brigadier General. He is also the head of Grupo de Administración Empresarial S.A. (GAESA), a state-owned conglomerate that oversees a wide range of businesses in Cuba, including hotels, restaurants, and retail stores.
Lopez-Calleja is a close confidant of Raul Castro, the former President of Cuba, and he has been described as one of the most powerful men in the country. In 2019, the United States sanctioned Lopez-Calleja and several other Cuban officials and entities for their alleged involvement in human rights abuses and the repression of the Cuban people. The sanctions freeze any assets held by Lopez-Calleja or his businesses in the US and prohibit US citizens from doing business with him.
